The All-Star Campaign is a fundraising and awareness campaign supporting Big Brothers Big Sisters of Calgary and Area (BBBS), running throughout August, 2016. Thanks to the generous support of long-time supporters, Qualico and Gary Nissen, every dollar we raise during the campaign will be matched up to $100,000, for a grand total of $200,000!

The funds raised will support mentoring programs for children in our community who desperately need positive, caring role models in their lives. We need champions like you, now more than ever, to help us ensure that every child can realize their full potential.

We know that children who are mentored do better in school, go on to successful careers, give back to their communities, and live happier, healthier lives. The presence of a caring adult in a young person’s life has the power to heal and encourage a developing mind, to provide hope, and to instill courage. Mentorship changes lives for the better and when we live better lives we build better communities.

We need your help! 2016 continues to be a challenging year for Albertans, and for BBBS. We currently serve over 2,000 children, but with programs at capacity and our waitlist full, we are struggling to keep up with the growing demand for our services. In fact, close to 1,000 children and families who reached out to us for service last year did not get matched with mentors because of a lack of resources. If we are not able to provide mentors to the children who need them, countless young people will fall through the cracks.

YOU can help make sure that doesn’t happen! With you on our side, we are certain that we’ll meet our fundraising goal and ultimately, change more lives.

Changing the course of young lives changes the future of our communities. There is no more important investment you can make than in helping young people realize – and share – their full potential.

A recent study from the Boston Consulting Group found that every $1 invested in mentoring by Big Brothers Big Sisters returns $18 to society, and up to $23 for the most economically disadvantaged.

By every measure, Big Brothers Big Sisters returns positive, results in the mental health, employment, and civic engagements of the children in our programs:

For over 30 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters has been making a positive difference in the lives of children and youth in Calgary and the surrounding areas through a wide range of one-to-one and group mentoring programs, both in school and in the community. Last year alone, more than 2,000 young people participated in Big Brothers Big Sisters programs and services in Calgary, Airdrie, Cochrane, High River, Okotoks, and the surrounding areas.

Serving as role models, our mentors teach by example the importance of giving and giving back, of staying in school and of having respect for family, peers and community. Each time we match a young person with a mentor, we start something incredible – a life-changing relationship built on friendship, trust and empowerment.
